Finding the funny

On Asians’ Essential Hypertension…

“Why that much meds and vits?” I am asked.

My answer is something like this: “It’s old age. Oh, and that Asian genetic make up that renders us prone to hypertension. It’s so normal and expected, my doctor said, that it is called essential hypertension.

This essential hypertension is quite dangerous because that means it’s allowed out during lockdown. 🤣

On a serious side, according to Mayo Clinic:

Primary (essential) hypertension

For most adults, there’s no identifiable cause of high blood pressure. This type of high blood pressure, called primary (essential) hypertension, tends to develop gradually over many years.

  1. My dad felt that it had a lot to do with high sodium intake in at least Japanese diets, combined with living in cooler and/or less physically demanding environments where it doesn’t get sweated out. My own doctor (since retired) said that Asians seem to develop hypertension at lower BMI’s than Europeans.

A good diet and lots of exercise (difficult right now), I’ve managed to stay on the ragged edge without any medication.

    1. It must have something to do with too much salt and/or soya sauce, yes. I’m not a huge salt fan though. I do like soya sauce. I love coffee and do no exercise. I must really do my best to be more active and regularly.

Great work on taking care of your health and keeping hypertension away.
